Landmines and explosive ordnance and remnants of war directly threaten millions of people caught up in armed conflicts around the world – from Afghanistan to Myanmar to Sudan to Ukraine to Colombia to Gaza.

Even after the fighting ends, these deadly devices can contaminate communities for decades to come, posing a daily and deadly danger to women, men and children alike, and blocking vital humanitarian and development assistance.

I also call on Member States to support the United Nations Mine Action Strategy, and ratify and fully implement the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, the Convention on Cluster Munitions, and the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons.

World Autism Awareness Day is a moment to recognize and celebrate the important contributions of autistic people in every country and community.

But around the world, they continue to confront barriers to their fundamental rights to education, employment and social inclusion – as called for by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Our planet is drowning under a torrent of trash.

Every year, humanity produces more than 2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste. Rotting food, plastic bottles, chemical-laced electronics and much more is tossed away without regard for our water, land and air.
人类每年产生超过20亿吨的城市固体废物。腐烂的食物、塑料瓶、含有化学物质的电子产品等大量废物被随意丢弃，而不顾及我们的水、土地和空气。
As trash decays, it spews planet-warming greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, poisons our water and soil, and inflicts illness, disease and even death among people around the world.

Overconsumption is killing us. Humanity needs an intervention.

Since last year, the Advisory Board on Zero Waste has been bringing partners together around this critical issue and what needs to be done to make zero waste a reality.

Businesses must rethink their products to minimize wasteful packaging and maximize longevity and lifecycle.

It brings together millions of people across generations and nations.

In these times of great challenge, Nowruz promotes dialogue, good neighborliness and reconciliation.

Today is a solemn reminder of the grave risks facing our staff members as they carry out their vital work under the United Nations flag.

These brave women and men represent humanity’s highest calling: helping people in their hour of desperate need. They come from countries spanning the globe, but are united in their common dedication to the noble causes of peacekeeping, delivering aid and assistance, and upholding international law and human rights in countries and regions rocked by conflict and disaster.

They also face enormous and unacceptable risks – including violence, detention and abduction. Since 2022, 381 UN personnel have been detained – including 7 in January and February of this year. In total, 27 UN personnel are still in detention.

Racism is an evil infecting countries and societies around the world – a deeply entrenched legacy of colonialism and enslavement.

The results are devastating: opportunities stolen; dignity denied; rights violated; lives taken and lives destroyed.

The International Day to Combat Islamophobia occurs at a time when we see a rising tide of anti-Muslim hate and bigotry in many parts of the world.

Institutional discrimination and other barriers are violating the human rights and dignity of Muslims. Divisive rhetoric and misrepresentation are stigmatizing communities. Online hate speech is fueling real-life violence.
